  • Mood: grateful

The greatest moments in life are not concerned with self achievements but rather with the things we do for other people."

- Walt Disney

Hi all I just had a wierd thought in life. Summer is finally here. After all the soggy wet weird weather here in BC, the big yellow thing in the sky finally came out. Its been a long and wet spring, with the snow and rain. Now I hear people complaining that its too hot...Crap...make up yer mind. Me I love this weather.

But life is just weird. I mean 6 months ago I was looking at my cupboard and crying because I had nothing in it and at least a week to go til the food bank hamper. Now I have food in it and in my pantry. Im not boasting or bragging. It just makes you think thats how fast life changes. Here is my plug for today. Donate to your local food bank in the summer. Most of the business and non-profit groups give there major donations around christmas time. But the summer time is the worst time for alot of the food banks because they just cant stretch what they get thru the summer. I have one just down the street from me and alot of them come in here to the coffee shop I work at with tears in their eyes because they just cant give the families and children what they need because it is not there. Costco here in  BC has case lots of alphagetti and soups and macaroni for any where from 5 to 10 bucks. Get an extra one and give it to your local food bank. Even the no name stuff cost about the same as a Starbucks fancy coffee. Give up your coffee for the day and buy a case of soup. It's easy to stand in line, get your coffee and forget about the cost of that coffee, but its not so easy to forget the cost of soup and bread when your hear your child crying. I gave back what I could, now here is my challange for all of you, time to pay it forward. Insted of taking orders at the office for coffee, ask them would they be willing to give the money up to buy food for the local food bank.

In Canada to find your local food bank Canadian Association of Food Banks

In the US to find your local food Bank just type in your state and food banks to find one nearest you.

Take Care all.

Coffee Coffee and More Coffee

  • Mood: Grumpy
  • Munchies: French Onion Sun Chips and Pepsi
  • Music: Welcome to the Jungle
  • Pet Peeves: Price of Gas
Ok most of you see that I am working in Coffee... Kona Coffee to be exact. Why Kona Coffee? Because its one of my favorite coffee in the world. Its smooth and mild tasting. Plus it comes from my favorite place in the world,Hawaii.  Gotcha did ya think it was going to be about coffee. Nope, but its a better title than say "Sex, sex and More sex"  Honestly I am so tired right now. Lets see I work at a hawaiian coffee shop five days a week , deliver papers two days a week...hmmmmmm lets see thats 7 days a week. God help me..If I dont get to Hawaii this Christmas Im going to scream..lol I am hoping to more or less pay for the stuff I need there and just lay back on a beach and lie in the sun like a ...welll .... turtle. But for now Im just venting and hoping I can get past the anger and frustration of the Government. The price of gas is killin me, with no relief in sight, price of food is gone mad and I am just making the payments of everything. Ah well, what can I do.... HMmmmm stop running papers...nope, need the cash that comes from that. Stop working at the coffee shop...Nope , l love it too much. Oh well Grin and bear it, at least it will prevent me from crying. Like I said Im just venting and wishing I could find the moron or morons that put the taxes on everything and wishing I knew sooner to buy stock in oil a year ago....then I wouldnt be crying about money...lol... Any ways if you hear from Will let me know....

Dear Mister Prime Minster

I wish you could see what I see: an empty cubboard, empty wallet, empty freezer

I wish you could feel what I feel , Cold because they shut off my hydro,I couldnt make enough money on minimum wage, hunger because I could not buy food and the food banks gave what they could, Tiredness because I walk the floor at night because I am worried Im not going to be able to pay my rent.

I wish you could express what I feel: Depression because Im not good enough for any job because I am disabled, Anger, because your government keeps taking the money Ive earned, Frustration because I can't get ahead in life no matter how hard I work.

You said the economy is getting better , try telling that to the people that have to pay high fuel, high rent and high food cost.

You said the health care waits are getting better, try telling that to people who are dying in the waiting rooms, people who wait three years or more for hipand knee surgeries, to my husband who still waits after five years for his testing.

Try comforting me now, I know you laugh at me behind my back

Try telling me I'll give you a hand up, I know your just going to kick me down again

Try telling me its going to get better, I know your just going to step on my back to make yourself better.

Tell me your lies again , perhaps I might believe you again or I just might see thru you this time

Signed

The disabled, poor , hungrey and homeless.

Coffee and More Coffee

  • Mood:
  • Munchies: Tim Hortons Coffee and Doughnut ( I'll start tomorow)

As most of you all know Im working in a coffee shop now... I decided to check out some stats on coffee. Plain Generic Black Coffee has 1 to 5.4 calories...depending on the brand and flavor. The coffee I serve has 2.5 calories per cup... Not bad... But I decided to do a check on my other place to go for coffee.... * Starbucks...and lo and behold Starbucks has a list for all its coffees.. Now there is too much to type and  Reading some of it scares the bejezzus out of me..

My Favorite is the white Chocolate Mocha with whipped cream....Hold on to it...720 calories with 49.5 g of Fat.. Now that scares me... But the other one I like is the Caffe Mocha..510 calories for a tall with 39.7 g of Fat.... My sister loves the Caramel Macchiato Tall-sized with Breve milk 414 calories with 39.6g of Fat... Holy crap... I never realized that all of these good coffees were soooo bad for you.

As a Canadian as most of us do , we love our Tim Hortons as well Ummmm well I checked it out.. My four and four large is 460 calories and 24g of fat and with a Honey Cruller it comes to 780 calories and 43 g of fat. Now if I got the Breakfast sandwich insted its 970 calories with 57g of fat I think Im going to stay home with my coffee and toast... You can too check some of the stuff you love at  Tim Hortons too JUST CLICK HERE its scary on how much junk we put in our coffee

But I decided to take a look at some of the stuff that we put in our coffee at home you know cream, sugar and all that stuff. All of this is based on one Table spoon

Cream 6g fat  52 calories

Half-and-half 2g fat  20 calories

Plain nondairy creamer (liquid) 1.5g fat  20 calories

Plain, light nondairy creamer (liquid) 0.5g fat  10 calories

Flavored nondairy creamer (liquid) 1.5g fat  35 calories

Flavored, reduced-fat nondairy creamer (liquid) 0g Fat  20 calories

Plain nondairy creamer (powder) 5g fat  33 calories

Plain, light nondairy creamer (powder) 1g fat  25 calories

Flavored nondairy creamer (powder) 2.5g fat 45 calories

Flavored, reduced-fat nondairy creamer (powder) 0g fat  40 calories

 Whole milk 0.5g fat  9calories
